Aortic Regurgitation Flashcards
Is Aortic Regurgitation volume or pressure work?
Initially volume overload but eventually there is an increase in pressure as well.
Symptoms
- Dyspnea on exertion
- Sensation of Forceful Heartbeat
- Decreased exercise tolerance
- Fatigue
What are the complications of Acute Aortic Regurgitation?
Elevated LV diastolic pressure, left atrial and pulmonary pressures
What are the complications of Chronic Aortic Regurgitation?
- LV Eccentric hypertrophy
2. Increased pulse pressure/Lower diastolic pressure
Describe the murmur in Aortic regurgitation
Decreschendo murmur at Lower left sternal border with a systolic ejection murmur
DeMussett’s sign
Head bobbing with each heart beat
What is a waterhammer pulse?
Abrupt distenstion and collapse (Corrigan’s pulse)
Muller’s sign
Systolic pulsation of the uvula
Traube’s sign
Systolic and diastolic sounds auscultated over the femoral arteries
Duroziez’s sign
Systolic murmur auscultated over the femoral artery when it is compressed proximally and a diastolic murmur when it is compressed distally
Quincke’s sign
Capillary pulsations of the fingertips or by pressing a slide over the patient’s lip
HIll’s sign
Popliteal cuff systolic pressure exceeding brachial cuff systolic pressure by more than 60 mmHg.
Which pts need surgery for Aortic Regurgitation?
- Acute AI pts
2. Chronic AI pts with symptoms
