Congenital Heart Diseases 2 Flashcards
Name the Right to Left shunt diseases
- Tetralogy of fallot
2. Transposition of the Great Arteries
Discuss Tetralogy of Fallot
Anteriosuperior displacement of the Infundibular septum
Boot shaped heart
What are the 4 components to Tetralogy of Fallot?
- VSD
- Obstruction of RV outflow tract
- Overriding Aorta
- RVH
Complications of Tetraology of Fallot?
Aortic Regurgitation
Pulmonary atresia
Discuss Transposition of the Great Arteries
- RV is connected to the aorta, LV is connected to pulmonary artery
- Atrioventricular connections are normal
Symptoms of Transposition of the Great Arteries
RVH and LV thinning
What is Coarctation of the aorta?
Focal narrowing of the aorta
Describe the 2 types of Coarctation of the aorta?
- Infantile: Tubular hypoplasia of arch proximal to a patent ductus arteriosus
- Adult: Ridgelike infolding opposite the ligamentum arteriosum without a patent ductus arteriosus
Symptoms of Coarctation of the aorta
Infantile: Cyanosis of the lower half of the body
Adult: Hypertension in UE, Weak pulses and hypertension in LE, Notching of ribs
What is Coarctation of the aorta associated with?
Bicuspid aortic valve, Berry aneurysm
