Q
Mannitol
A
Osmotic diuretic
1
Q
Acetazolamide
A
Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor (diuretic)
- makes bicarbonate and H ions for exchange with Na
- inhibitor causes indirect blocking of Na/H antiporter, blocking reabsorption
2
Q
Furosemide
A
Loop diuretic - most potent type
- less Na reabsorption
- NB high ceiling diuretic
3
Q
Bumetanide
A
Loop diuretic - most potent type
- decreases Na reabsorption
- don’t use with heart or renal failure or pulmonary oedema
4
Q
Thiazide
A
Distal tubule diuretic
- inhibits Na/Cl symporter
- can cause hyperglycaemia and erectile dysfunction
5
Q
Indapamide
A
Distal tubule diuretic
- inhibits Na/Cl symporter
- can cause hyperglycaemia and erectile dysfunction
6
Q
Hydrochlorothiazide
A
Distal tubule diuretic
-inhibits Na/Cl symporter
- can cause hyperglycaemia and erectile dysfunction
NB low ceiling diuretic
7
Q
Spironolactone
A
Competitive aldosterone antagonist (diuretic)
- K-sparing
- gynecomastia and hyperkalemia
