Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, or vindictiveness lasting at least 6 months as evidences by at least 4 symptoms from any of the following categories:
Angry/irritable Mood
- often loses temper
- often easily annoyed
- often angry and resentful
Argumentative/defiant Behavior
- often argues with authority figures
- actively defies or refuses to comply with requests or rules
- deliberately annoys others
- blames others for mistakes or behaviors
Vindictiveness
- has been spiteful or vindictive at least twice within past 6 months
Persistence and frequency of behaviors should be used to distinguish “within normal limits”
Interactions must not only be with siblings
Intermittent Explosive Disorder
Recurrent behavioral outbursts representing a failure to control aggressive impulses
- verbal aggression
- physical aggression (does not result in damage or injury)
[occurring twice weekly for period of 3 months] - 3 behavioral outbursts involving damage and destruction of property and/or physical assault involving physical injury within 12 month period
Magnitude of aggressiveness expressed is out of proportion to provocation or stressors
Not premeditated outbursts
At least 6 years old
Conduct Disorder
Repetitive and persistent pattern of behavior in which the basic rights of others or major age-appropriate societal norms or rules are violated, as manifested by presence of at least 3 of following in past 12 months with at least 1 in past 6 months:
Aggression to People or Animals
- bullies, threatens, intimidates others
- initiates physical fights
- has used a weapon that can cause serious physical harm to others
- physically cruel to others or animals
- stolen
- forced someone into sexual activity
Destruction of Property
- deliberate engagement in fire setting with intention of causing damage
- deliberate destruction of others property
Deceitfulness or Theft
- broken into someone else’s house or car
- lies to obtain goods or favors or to avoid obligations
- stolen items of nontrivial value without confronting victim
Serious Violation of Rules
- stays out at night despite curfews
- run away from home overnight at least twice or without returning after lengthy periods of time
- truancy from school
Diagnosis for ages under 18 years old [if over 18, must rule out antisocial personality]
Pyro- & Klepto- mania
Deliberate and purposeful fire setting
Recurrent failure to resist impulses to steal objects that are not needed
Experiences of arousal, pleasure, relief; fascination, curiosity, interest
