An ability(ies) achieved by children of certain age. Can involve physical, social, emotional, cognitive and communication skills
What are the 5 categories of developmental milestone?
Fine motor, gross motor, communication and language, cognitive and social/emotional
What should a child be able to do at 6 weeks?
Fixing and following- fine motor
Turn head to sound- communication
Smile- social
What should a child be able to do at 2months?
Lift head- gross motor
Look at faces- cognitive
What are the gross motor development milestones?
2 month - lift head 4 month - roll over 6 month - sit 9 month- crawl 12 month start to walk 15 month walk well 18 month throwing 24month kicking 3yr jumping and tricycle 4yr standing on one leg
What are the fine motor development milestones?
6 weeks fixing and following 6months hold object and move it 12 months pincer grip 15 months point to need 18 month scribbles with crayon 2yr draws lines 3yr draws circles 4yr draws crosses
What are the communication and development milestones?
6 week turns to sound 6 months recognize their name 1yr say one word 2yr stringing sentence 3yr understandable to family 4 yr complex, plurals and sentences
What are the cognitive milestones?
2 month looks at faces 6 months put things into their mouth 9 months peek-a-boo 12 months can follow directions 18 months copying people 2yr sorts out shapes and colors 3yr plays make believe
What are the social milestones of development?
6 weeks smile 3 months laugh 6 months knows other people’s emotions 9months stranger anxiety 12 months waves bye bye 18 months temper tantrums 3yr shows concern and emotion 4yr interactive 5yr conforms to social norms wants to please and be like friends

Regression and loss of skill Can’t walk by 18months male and 2yrs female No speech by 18months Can’t sit unsupported by 12 months Persistent toe walking

Throwing- gross

Copy people - cognitive
