What antibiotic do you NEVER prescribe to a patient on METHOTREXATE and why?
Trimethoprim/ co-trimoxazole

Propylthiouracil is what?
Propylthiouracil is in the antithyroid family of medications. It works by decreasing the amount of thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland and blocking the conversion of thyroxine (T4) to triiodothyronine (T3).

Gentamicin, quinine, furosemide, aspirin and various chemotherapies

Metformin, lithium, digoxin
What common drugs should be stopped in AKI as it may worsen renal function?
NSAIDs, aminoglycosides, ACE Inhibitors, angiotensin 2 receptor antagonists, diuretics
What is carbamazepine and what are it’s side effects?
P450 enzyme inducer.
Dizzy ness, ataxia, drowsiness, agranulocytosis and SIADH
What are the side effects of sodium valproate?
Inc appetite and weight gain, alopecia, P450 enzyme inhibitor.
Also teratogenic- DO NOT GIVE TO potentially PREGNANT WOMEN!
Give an example of histamine 1 antagonists and histamine 2 antagonists
Histamine 1 = antihistamines e.g. loratadine
Histamine 2 = antacids e.g. ranitidine
