Mood may be irritable, rather than sad, especially in adolescents.
When does risk of suicide peak for children

One of the first nursing interventions when dealing with depression:
one of the first nursing interventions is helping the person re-establish normal sleep patterns and healthy nutrition
Drugs most used for treating depression
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs),
serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs),
and the norepinephrine dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) are used most often
Why are these drugs (SSRIs, SNRIs, NDRIs) most used for treating depression
because these drugs selectively target the neurotransmitters and receptors thought to be associated with depression and minimize side effects.
When are MAOIs used for pts with depression?
MAOIs usually are reserved for patients whose depression fails to respond to other antidepressants or patients who cannot tolerate typical antidepressants.
