SCT
Humans learn behavior through observational learning. The behavior is learned through modeling and reinforcement.
SIT
Humans have several social selvces which correspond with group membership. We categorize ourselves into groups to know what value we have in social contexts. Involves social categorization, identification, comparison (positive distinctiveness)
Culture
Shared set of behaviors, beliefs, and values that characterize a group and it members.
Stereotype
A social perception of an individual based on group membership or physical attributes.
Conformity
Change in behavior as a result of real or imagined group pressure or norms.
Normative Social Influence
The need for social acceptance and approval. We conform in order to fit in.
Cultural Dimension
A behavioral trend in a given culture
Enculturation
The process of adopting or internalizing the norms or behaviors of one’s own culture.
Acculturation
The process of adopting or internalizing the behaviors or norms of a culture one comes in contact with.
Schema
A mental structure that helps organize and interpret information
Model
A person whose behavior is observed and imitated by others
Vicarious Reinforcement
Seeing a behavior be reinforced or punsished, thus learning to do/not to do the behavior
Self Efficacy
One’s belief in their ability to accomplish a task.
Stereotype Threat
Anxiety or fear experienced when one feels at risk of confirming a stereotype, which can negatively impact behavior.
Salient
When one social self becomes more noticeable or important.
