Procedure

A

Independent samples design
- 3 confederates introduced as
- psychology students (from in-group)
- ancient history students (from out group)
- 2 IV, confederates introduced which course, and public/private responses
Each test
- Shown one line
- Then shown 3 other lines and had to match length of first line to one of them
- 18 trials
- Half, confederates gave correct responses, other half unanimous incorrect responses
- Participant sat at the end of the row, last to give answer
- In private response, participant asked to write down their response instead
