CV - terms associated with pericardial disease Flashcards
what is arteriolar remodeling?
structural change in vessel walls that result in permanent increases in PVR and contributes to atherogensis
what is an aneurysm?
localized dilation of of vessel wall or cardiac chamber
what are true aneurysms?
involves weakening of all three layers of the arterial wall
what is a false aneurysm?
an extravascular hematoma that communicates with the intravascular space
what are acute aortic syndromes?
aortic dissection, hemorrhage in vessel wall, vessel rupture
what is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)?
procedure where narrowed arteries are dilated with a catheter
what is myocardial stunning?
temporary loss of contractile function that persists for hours or days after perfusion has been restored
what is hibernating myocardium?
tissue that is persistently ischemic and undegoes metabolic adaptations to prolong myocyte survival until perfusion is restored
what is myocardial remodeling?
process that causes myocardial hypertrophy and loss of contractile functioning in areas distant from the infarciton
what is pericardial effusion?
accumulation of fluid in the pericardial cavity and can occur in all forms of pericarditisw
what is temponade?
pressure exerted by the pericardial fluid exceeds diastolic pressure within the heart chambers which interferes with right atrial filling
what is constrictive pericarditis?
-idiopathic or associated with viral infection
-fibrous scarring causes the visceral and parietal layers to adhere to each other
- this eliminates the pericardial cavity
