Coronary Artery Disease Flashcards
1
Q
Coronary artery disease (CAD)
A
- reduction of blood flow to heart muscle, usually due to buildup of plaque in coronary arteries
- type of blood vessel disorder
- included in the general category of atherosclerosis.
2
Q
Heart disease
A
- group of diseases that affect structure and function of the heart.
- Can include coronary heart disease, stoke, hypertension, angina
3
Q
myocardial ischemia
A
occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium) is obstructed by a partial or complete blockage of a coronary artery by a buildup of plaques (atherosclerosis).
• Occurs when the demand for myocardial oxygen exceeds the ability of the coronary arteries to supply the heart with oxygen
4
Q
C Reactive Protein (CRP)
A
Non specific marker of inflammation
Increased with CAD
5
Q
Arterial anastomosis
A
a cross-connection between adjacent channels, tubes, fibers, or other parts of a network. (ie. the blood is directed around by a new artery)
