What is CHD?

A

Septal defect = hole between left and right sides of the heart. Most common is atrial, but can get ventricular

What happens in CHD?

A

More blood is entering the pulmonary vasculature which results in pulmonary hypertension. Pressures in the right side of the heart increase until blood moves from right to left side.
This means blood is not oxygenated before it gets sent around the body.
