Disease of the heart muscle itself

What are the different types of cardiomyopathy?
A
Dilated: alcohol, permpartum, genetic, myocarditis, sarcoid.
Hypertrophic: genetic, idiopathic, storage disease.
Restrictive: amyloidosis, radiation induces, chemo related.

What is dilated cardiomyopathy?
A
Dilation of the chambers causing a large and flabby heart

What is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
A
Abnormal diastolic filling causing a heavy, muscular, hypercontractile heart. End stage dilation can occur.

What are the symptoms of cardiomyopathy?
A
SOB, chest pain, palpitations, syncope, sudden death, atrial fibrillation.
