Clin Path Flashcards
1
Q
acanthocyte
A
ripped apart lookin’
- fragmentation, DIC, liver disease
2
Q
echinocytes
A
spikey
- often artifact when left too long in storage
- ATP depletion
- renal failure or snake bite
3
Q
fragmentation
A
thermal inury, mechanical, endothelial (vasculitis, hemangiosarc, splenic/hepatic disease)
4
Q
shistocyte
A
bite taken out
- fragmentation, DIC
5
Q
spherocyte
A
smaller, perfectly round, no central pallor
- IMHA, Extravascular hemolysis (Mphage)
-
6
Q
ghosts
A
intravascular hemolysis (immune mediated) causes hemoglobinemia/uria
7
Q
eccentrocytes
A
oxidative damage, Hb pushed to side, often have heinz bodies(oxidized portion of globin)
8
Q
what measures endogenous GFR
A
Creatinine (its freely filtered out of blood into glomerulus and NOT REABSORBED in tubules)
INcreased Creatinine when DECreased GFR in chronic renal disease
