circulatory system part 1 Flashcards
What are the 3 components needed for circulatory system?
pump ex heart
system of tubes, channels, spaces
ex. viens arteries, capillaries
Fluid that circulates through the system
ex blood, hemolymth
Characteristics of a chambered heart?
has contractile chambers
blood enters atrium
blood is pumped out by ventricles
Characteristics of the skeletal muscle pump?
muscles squeezes on vessel to generate pressure
one way valve helps to ensure unidirectional flow
Characteristics of pulsating blood vessel pump?
Peristalsis
rhythmic contractions of vessel wall pump blood
What is a closed system?
fluid remains within vessels and does not come in direct contact with tissue
distinct from intrastitial fluid
molecules must diffuse across vessel walls in order to deliver nutrients
what is a open system?
fluid called hemolymph
fluid comes in direct contact with tissue in spaces called sinuses
hemolymph mixes with interstitial fluid
What is interstitial fluid?
Extracellular fluid that directly bathes the tissue
What is lymph?
fluid that circulates in secondary system in vertabrates called the lymphatic system
runs in parallel
role in immune system
what does the lymphatic system use to move lymph around?
uses peristalsis
What is hemolymph?
fluid that circulates in open systems?
What are the 3 main componints of blood?
Plasma 55%
erythrocytes (red blood cells) 45%
other cells
ex leukocytes and thrombocytes white blood cells <1%
What are hematrocrit cells?
fraction that is made up of erythrocytes
What are the blood carrier proteins ?
albumin and Globulins
What are the bloods clotting protiens?
thrombin and fibrinogen
