Circulatory 1: Thorax, Head Flashcards
What does the abdominal aorta split into?
Right and left common iliac arteries
What two arteries come off the ascending aorta?
Right and left coronary arteries
What comes off the left coronary artery
Anterior interventricular artery and circumflex artery
What feeds the left marginal artery?
Circumflex artery
What does the right coronary artery feed?
Right marginal artery, posterior interventricular artery
What three things come off the arch of the aorta?
1- Brachiocephalic artery
2- Left common carotid artery
3- Left subclavian artery
What does the brachiocephalic artery turn into and feed?q
Right common carotid, then right subclavian, then the right subclavian feeds the right vertebral artery
Where do the common carotids go?
Head and brain
Where do vertebral arteries go? What do they travel through?
The brain, via the transverse foramina of the transverse processes of the C vertebrae
Right common carotid comes off _______; Left common carotid comes off ______ ______.
Brachiocephalic
aortic arch
What do the right and left common carotid arteries split into?
R/L Internal Carotid
R/L External Carotid
How is the basilar artery formed
Formed by joining of left and right vertebral arteries
What do the internal carotids supply?
Brain/eye: 80% of cerebrum and 1-ophthalmic artery (central artery of the retina→ ciliary branches → choroid) 2- anterior cerebral artery 3- middle cerebral artery
What do the external carotids supply?
Supply most external head structures, thyroid, tongue, face via facial artery, ear, scalp
Where do vertebral arteries enter the skull? What do they supply?
Enter skull thru foramen magnum, unite to form the basilar artery, which supplies: cerebellum, pons, inner ear
Whta feeds the p[osterior cerebral arteries?
Basilar artery
The circle of Willis is also known as?
Cerebral arterial circle
What does the circle of willis surround?
Surrounds the pituitary gland and optic chiasm
How long is the thoracic aorta and where is it?
About 8 inches long, it begins between the 4th/5th thoracic vertebrae, ends at diaphragm
What are the four visceral branches of the thoracic aorta?
Pericardial
Bronchial
Esophogeal
Mediasternal
What do the pericardial branches of the thoracic aorta supply?
Supply pericardial sac **not the heart muscle itself
What do the bronchial branches of the thoracic aorta supply?
Systemic supply to lung tissue **oxygenated blood
What do the esophogeal branches of the thoracic aorta supply? How many are there?
5-6 branches, supply esophagus
How many mediasternal branches of the thoracic aorta are there?
many small branches
What are the three parietal branches of the thoracic aorta?
Posterior intercostal
Subcostal
Superior phrenic
How many pairs of branches are there for the posterior branch of the thoracic aorta?
9 pairs
How many pair(s) of branches are there for the subcostal branch of the thoracic aorta? Where is it?
1 pair, inferior to 12th rib
What do the superior phrenic arteries supply?
Supply superior surface of diaphragm
