90% secondary to gallstones

A
Cholecystitis without gallstones
~10% cases
Poor prognosis

What causes acalculous cholecystitis?
A
5%= bile inspissation due to dehydration 5%= bile stasis due to trauma or severe systemic illness

What are the features of cholecystitis?
A
RUQ pain- may radiate to R shoulder Murphy's sign + Distended, tender gallbladder may be palpable Fever Anorexia and nausea PMH biliary colic/gallstones

A
Classic history
Bloods- elevated WCC, CRP
US

What is the management of cholecystitis?
A
IV antibiotics
Early lap cholecystectomy
