What are McClelland’s Three Psychological Needs?
Need for affiliation, need for achievement, and need for power
What is need for affilation?
Being liked and accepted, being part of a group/team, and minimizing conflicts
What is need for achievement?
Meets/surpass self-imposed standard of excellence, outperforming others, and striving to make a unique contribution
What is need for power?
Having an impact on others, interested in status/position, and giving advice, assistance, support, and help to others
What is internal locus of control?
Belief that personal decisions and actions make a difference in life
What is external locus of control?
Belief that life is controlled by authorities, luck, or fate
What is extrinsic motivation?
External rewards
What is the expectancy-value theory?
Incentives interpreted on basis of a person’s beliefs, values, and importance attached to them at a given time
What is intrinsic motivation?
Internal rewards
What is the self-determination theory?
Needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness may motivate people
What are social components of food?
Learning, availability of food, social pressure, and environmental cues
