Chapter 9 - Circulation Flashcards
Endocardium
Thin membrane that lines the chambers and valves
Myocardium
Thick muscle layer that makes up most of the heart wall
Epicardium
Thin membrane that covers the heart
Pericardium
Fibrous sac that contains the heart and anchors it to surrounding structures.
Septum
Heart wall
Pulmonary circuit
Low in oxygen. Pumped to lungs. On the right side
Systemic circuit
High in oxygen. Pumped to the body. On the left side
Functional murmur
Normal heart sounds
Systole
Contraction of the heart
Diastole
Relaxation of the heart
Sinoatrial node (SA)
Upper right atrium. Called the pacemaker as it sets the heart rate
Atrioventrical node (AV)
Bottom of the right atrium near the ventricle
AV Bundle
At the top of the interventricular septum
Bundle branches
Travel along the left and ride sides of the septum
Purkinje fibers
Carry stimulation throughout the walls of the ventricles.
ECG
Electrocardiography. Measures hearts electrical functions
