Chapter 8.3 Flashcards
What does the person-as-intentional approach suggest?
the person as intentional suggests that individuals are intentional in their behavior.
What are the theories for person as intentional?
- goal setting theory
- control theory
- action theory
What is the goal setting theory?
In this approach a goal is seen as a motivational force. And individuals who set specific difficult goals perform better than individuals who simply adopt no goal or a ‘do my best’ goal.
what is a feedback loop?
A feedback loop is a connection between knowledge of results and the intermediate states that occur between goal commitment and performance.
What does the control theory suggest?
The control theory is based on the principle of a feedback loop. It assumes that an individual compares a standard to actual outcome and adjusts behavior to bring the outcome in agreement with the standard
What is same sort regulation?
same sort regulation is a regulation process by which individuals take in information about behavior and make adjustments or changes based on that information. These changes affect subsequent behavior.
what is self efficacy?
Self efficacy is the belief in ones capability to perform a specific task or reach a specific goal. If you think you can do it you set a higher goal.
How to raise self-efficacy?
- experience, you know how to do it because you already did it before.
- modeling, you see someone else do it
- social persuasion, someone says you can do it.
- physiological state, make sure the environment you work in is good.
what does the action theory suggest?
The action theory is about the action you planned and the execution. It suggest you establish a goal and then you plan everything (implementing the goal). The action theory is not about setting the goal but about implementing it.
