what is organizational citizenship behavior (OCB)?
organizational citizenship behavior is behavior that goes beyond what is expected. There are two types of OCB.
It is largely a social phenomenon and is therefore beyond task performance. It however can be dangerous as it can increase the risk of an accident. Therefore there are correlations between conscientiousness and OCB.
What are the two types of organizational citizenship behavior?

- generalized compliance
What is altruism?
altruism is a type of organizational citizenship behavior that is helpful behavior directed towards individuals or groups within the organization such as offering to help a co-worker who is up against a deadline.
What is generalized compliance?
Generalized compliance is a form of organizational citizenship behavior that is helpful towards the broader organization such as upholding company rules
what is counterproductive work behavior (CWB)
counterproductive work behavior is voluntary behavior that violates significant organizational norms and threatens the well-being of the organization and its members.
What is dishonesty?
Dishonesty is not only theft of good but also the theft of time by arriving late or leaving early. Other dishonesties are being dishonest in communication with a customer, co-workers or the management.
what is absenteeism?
Absenteeism is a type of counterproductive behavior that involves failure of an employee to report for or remain at work as scheduled.
What is sabotage?
Sabotage is an act that damages, disrupts or subverts the organizations operations for personal purpose of the saboteur by creating unfavorable publicity, damage to property or destruction of working relationships.
what is the lordstown syndrome?
the lordstown syndrome was sabotage to the general electric plant.
How can counterproductive work behavior (CWB) be cured.
CWB can be cured by:
- punishment
- quick and genuine apologies to individuals who were unjustly treated.
- exposure to co workers who do not engage in CWB
- training in social and communication skills
- putting angry people in a better mood by using humor or expressing empathy.
What is adaptive performance?
Adaptive performance is a performance component that includes flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. there are 8 adaptive performance areas.
what are the 8 adaptive performance areas?
- handling emergencies
- handling work stress
- solving problems creatively
- dealing with uncertain work situations
- learning work tasks procedures and technologies
- demonstrating interpersonal adaptability
- demonstrating cultural adaptability
- demonstrating physical oriented adaptability.
what is an expert performance?
an expert performance is a performance exhibited by those who have been practicing for at least 10 years and have spent four hours per day in deliberate practice.
what are the three types of performance measures?
- objective performance measure
- judgmental measure
- personnel measure
what is an objective performance measure?
objective performance measures are usually a quantitative count of the results of work, such as sales volume, complaint letters and output.
