what is performance?
performance are actions and behaviors relevant to the organizations goals. They are measured in terms of each individuals proficiency. It is what an organization hires an employee to do and to doe well.
What is effectiveness?
Effectiveness is the evaluation of the results of performance, they are often controlled by factors beyond the actions of an individual. (such as total sales). Basically meaning the results.
What is productivity?
productivity is the ratio of effectiveness to the cost of achieving that level of effectiveness. A profit margin is an index of productivity.
what is declarative knowledge? (DK)
declarative knowledge is understanding what is required to perform a task. Basically knowing information about a job or task.
what is procedural knowledge and skills? (PKS)
procedural knowledge and skills is knowing how to perform a job or task. Often developed through practice and experience.
what is motivation? (M)
motivation is the conditions responsible for variations in intensity persistence quality and direction of ongoing behavior.
What are the three determinants of performance?
- declarative knowledge
- procedural knowledge
- motivation
What are the eight basic performance components that Campbell’s research identified?
- Job specific task proficiency
- non job specific task proficiency
- written and oral communication task proficiency
- demonstrating effort
- maintaining personal discipline
- facilitating peer and team performances
- supervision or leadership
- management or administration
these eight performance components are subsets of the three determinants of performance.
What is criterion deficiency?
criterion deficiency is a situation that occurs when an actual criterion is missing information that is part of the behavior one is trying to measure.
What is criterion contamination?
criterion contamination is a situation that occurs when an actual criterion includes information unrelated to the behavior one is trying to measure.
what is an ultimate criterion?
an ultimate criterion is when all aspects of performance are measured in an ideal world. This is impossible so we settle for an actual criterion.
