Chapter 7.4 Homeostasis and Cells Flashcards
How do individual cells maintain Homeostasis?
To maintain homeostasis, unicellular organisms grow, respond to the environment, transform energy, and reproduce.
What is Homeostasis?
(“Home(o)” = similar) (“stasis” = stopping/standing) the relatively constant internal physical and chemical conditions.
How do cells of multicellular organisms work together to maintain homeostasis?
the cells of multicellular organisms become specialized for particular tasks and communicate with one another to maintain homeostasis.
What are the levels of organization for multicellular organisms?
specialized cells group into Tissues that perform a particular function. Specific tissues group into Organs which have different kinds of tissues that work together. Organs that work together form Organ Systems.
What is a Receptor?
an area on the outside of a cell that can bind to the chemical signals sent from other cells as a form of communication.
