Chapter 7 Kidney Pathologic Conditions Flashcards
Glomerulonephritis
Inflammation of the glomeruli within the kidney
Interstitial nephritis
Inflammation of connective tissue that lies between the renal tubules
Nephrolithiasis (study guide)
Kidney stone. Stone lodge in either the ureter or bladder as well as in renal pelvis
Nephrotic Syndyrome
It is a collection of symptoms caused by excessive protein loss in urine
Polysetic Kidney Disease (PKD)
- Multiple fluid-filled sacs (cysts) within and on kidney
- Characterized by a progressive growth of cysts.
What are the 2 types of PKD? (Study Guide)
- Asymptomatic - doesn’t show up until middle age and then is marked by hematuria (blood in urine), UTI, and nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)
- Occurs in children and results in renal failure. Need kidney transplant.
What is bladder cancer?
Malignant tumor of the urinary bladder
What is diabetes insipidius (DI)?
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) is not secreted, or there is a resistance of the kidney to ADH
What is diabetes mellitus (DM)?
- Insulin is not secreted adequately or tissues are resistant to its effects
- Insulin is not secreted adequately or not used properly in the body. Hyperglycemia, or too much sugar in the blood.
