What does the virtue of hope do?
The virtue of hope is infused at Baptism to help direct us to God. Hope gives us the power to trust in God’s promise of salvation and eternal life.
What is Purgatory?
Purgatory is a place souls go to be purified before Heaven. Purgatory cleanses the soul from attachment to sin and temporal effects of sin.
What is the universal call to holiness?
Each person is called to live a life of holiness in his/her particular state of life. This call goes back to the original state of Adam and Eve being in friendship with God before the Fall.
What does the call from Jesus begin with?
Jesus calls us to conform our hearts to His teachings. This call begins with a call to repentance from past sins
What does it mean to be a disciple?
To be a disciple means to take on the Teacher’s way of life. Discipleship means imitating the life of Jesus.
What are the precepts of the Church?
The precepts of the Church are Mass, confession, Easter, fast, and tithe. We must attend Mass on Sundays and Holy days of obligation, confess sins at least once a year, receive Eucharist at least during Easter season, observe all days of fast and abstinence, and provide for the needs of the church.
What is the difference between sanctifying grace and actual grace?
Sanctifying grace is given to us through the Sacraments. Actual grace is given in particular moments to choose and avoid evil.
What are the two types of judgement?
Particular judgement is each person’s individual judgement at the end of their life. Last judgement will happen at the end of time.
What is hell?
Hell is the place of eternal separation from God. Those who die in a state of mortal sin are excluded from God’s presence for eternity.
What is the difference between objective and subjective redemption?
Objective is Jesus’s act of redemption for all people everywhere. Subjective is our free response to Jesus’s act of redemption.
What are the Beatitudes?
The Beatitudes represent the highest level of the moral life. The Beatitudes lived out are a perfect imitation of the life of Jesus.
What is the purpose of momento mori?
The purpose of momento mori is to remember that life does end. Informs us that we have eternal destiny.
What is natural law?
Law that is written in every human heart. All are bound to it, but it can be distorted by sin.
Why is love the root of holiness?
Love enables a person to love God above all else and love neighbors as Christ. It is the root of holiness, because to be holy means to love like God loves.
How does grace aid us?
Grace assists our response to God’s call. A life of holiness is impossible without grace.
