Essay: How does God prepare the Church in the Old Testament?

A

Throughout history, God prepared the Church. This can be seen through several accounts of the Old Testament.
God began preparing the Church at the very beginning. He created Adam and Eve to be in relationship with Him, which was lost during the fall. However, the Church is how God re-gathers humanity to Himself. Abraham is another great example of God’s preparation of the Church. He promised universal blessing through Abraham’s descendants, which is fulfilled in the Church. Also, just as Abraham’s offering of Isaac finalizes the covenant, Jesus’s sacrifice finalizes the New Covenant and establishes the Church. Concerning Moses, the Israelites are united in the celebration of the Passover, which foreshadows Mass.
All of these examples show how God prepares the Church in the Old Testament. They are all very important and still prevalent today!

28
Q

Essay: How is the Church like the Kingdom of David?

A

The Church can be related to the Kingdom of David. This can be done in many ways because there are many connections between the two.
Firstly, the kingdom ruled by David is a Royal Dynasty. Jesus is the son of David who establishes the Kingdom with His new covenant. David is told that the king will be a son of God. Jesus is son from all eternity; we are united to Him through Baptism. Another example is that the queen mother will have an important role. Mary is the queen of Heaven and intercedes for us. One other example of a connection is in the Davidic covenant, the “thank offering” will be the main sacrifice in the Temple. Christ transforms the Israelites “thank offering” of unleavened bread and wine by instituting the Eucharist.
All of these example are ways that the Davidic covenant connects to the Church. These are all very important, and still very prevalent today.
