The axial skeleton consists of what?
skull, vertebral column, thoracic cage
what does the axial skeleton do?
framework that supports and protects organs in the dorsal and ventral body cavities
what is the Hyoid bone?
U shaped bone that lies inferior to the mandible in the anterior neck
functions of the vertebral column (5 of them)
protects spinal cord, supports the skull, supports weight of the head, neck, and trunk, transfers weight to lower limbs and helps maintain upright position.
what are primary/ accommodation curves?
posteriorly sweeping curves of the thoracic and sacral columns
what are secondary/ compensation curves?
develop in the infant and toddler as anteriorly sweeping curve of the cervical and lumbar regions.
