What was the triangular trade?
Trade between New England, Africa, and the West Indies. Africa sent slaves to the West Indies, the West Indies sent rum and sugar to New England, and New England sent Fish, Furs, and Naval Stores to Africa and Europe.
Molasses Act
An extension of the Navigation laws, it aimed to crush North American trade with the French West Indies.
In the years immediately prior to the American Revolution what two religious groups were dominant?
Congregationalists and Anglicans.
The Great Awakening
A rousing religious revival that exploded onto the scene in the 1730’s and 1740’s that was marked by fiery speeches from very passionate animated preachers.
What were the old lights and new lights of the Great Awakening?
Old Lights were the old school preachers who stuck with traditional ways. New Lights were the new passionate fiery preachers who were much more theatrical than their older counterparts.
Poor Richard’s Almanac
The colonial best seller written and edited by Benjamin Franklin. It was full of proverbs and advice such as early to bed, early to rise, makes a young man healthy, wealthy and wise.
Zenger Trial
The Zenger Trial established the precedent that it was not slander to speak negatively about persons in power, as long as what one said was true. This was the beginnings of the Freedom of the Press.
