Who were the men involved in the Corrupt Bargain?
Andrew Jackson, who won the popular vote for President but was denied that office. John Quincy Adams, who was chosen by the House of Representatives as President. Henry Clay, who was named Secretary of State after getting the House to vote for John Quincy Adams.

Spoils System
A system where elected officials reward political supporters by providing jobs in public office.
The Tariff of Abominations
The Tariff of 1828, it raised tariffs to the point that Southerners filed formal protests with the Federal Government.
The South Carolina Exposition
Written by the then Vice President, John. C. Calhoun, it bluntly and explicitly proposed that states should nullify the tariff.
Nullification Crisis
The crisis that grew up around the Tariffs of 1828 and 1832. The crisis was finally resolved with the Compromise Tariff of 1833, negotiated by Henry Clay.
Force Bill
This bill authorized Andrew Jackson to use the Army and Navy to force the collection of tariffs in Southern States.
Indian Removal Act
Passed in 1830, it provided for the removal of all Indians then East of the Mississippi River. It eventually led to the Trail of Tears.
Trail of Tears
The removal of the FIve Civilized Tribes from their homes in Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama to the newly established Indian territory of Oklahoma. Nearly 1/4 of the members of these tribes died on the way to Oklahoma.
Black Hawk War
1832, Sauk and Fox braves led by the Chief Black Hawk fought to resist removal from their ancestral lands. The Indians were bloodily crushed.
Bank War
1832, Began when Daniel Webster and Henry Clay attempted to renew the Charter of the Bank of the United States. Andrew Jackson vetoes the bill. It continues until the bank is destroyed by the removal of its funds to smaller western banks.
