where two or more bones meet

26
Q

give examples of synovial joints

A

shoulder, knee and elbow

27
Q

how much movement does fibrous joints allow and give one example

A

allow almost no movement; skull sutures

28
Q

how much movement does cartilaginous joints allow and give one example

A

allow slight movement; pubic symphysis

29
Q

what is each bone end (epiphysis) cover by and why?

A

articular cartilage to prevent bone from rubbing against another bone

30
Q

what is the diaphysis covered in and what does that supply the bone with?

A

periosteum; contains blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic vessels

31
Q

dense and hard exterior surface bone

A

cortical or compact bone

32
Q

found inside bone, has spaces within the bone

A

cancellous bone or spongey bone

33
Q

what does cancellous bone contain within the spaces and what does it allow for?

A

red bone marrow; manufactures blood cells

34
Q

what is centermost of the diaphysis and what does that cavity contain?

A

medullary cavity; yellow bone marrow; fat

35
Q

what encloses a synovial joint?

A

joint capsule

36
Q

what is a joint capsule lines with and what purpose does it serve to the synovial joint

A

synovial membrane which secretes synovial fluid to lubricate joints

37
Q

what is a bursa?

A

sac-like composed of connective tissue and synovial membrane

38
Q

what purpose does a burse serve and where can it be found?

A

reduce friction; elbow, knee and shoulder
