Elision
An apostrophe added where the last vowel of a preposition or conjunction that starts with a vowel was dropped
Acute accent
shows pitch originally went up a little on accented syllable
Grave accent
shows that voice originally dropped a little on accented syllable
Circumflex accent
shows voice rose and then dropped a little on accented syllable
Syllabification rule 1
There is one vowel (or diphthong) per syllable

A single consonant by itself (not a cluster) goes with the following vowel. (If the consonant is the final letter in the word, it goes with the preceding vowel)
