Chapter 3 | Pressure Exerted By Fluids Flashcards
1
Q
What happens if we increase the force exerted by a fluid?
A
It increases the pressure. Ex: F1 F2 — —> — A1 A1
2
Q
What happens if we increase the area where the force is being exerted?
A
The pressure decreases. Ex: F1. F1 — —> — A1 A2
3
Q
How does pressure act IN a fluid?
A
- Pressure will increase as depth increases
- Pressure will increase as fluid density increase
4
Q
How does pressure work in compressible fluids? (Gases)
A
- Gas particles move randomly in all directions and bounce off of obstacles
- Each collision exerts pressure
(More collisions = higher pressure)
5
Q
Factors that affect the number of collisions:
A
- The number of particles
- The temperature of the fluid
- The size of the container (the volume)
6
Q
What’s important to note about Liquids and Gases?
A
Liquids and Gases move randomly
- But at any point, the pressure is measured the same
