Chapter 11 | Lines and Diagrams Flashcards
What are technical drawings?
Technical drawings are drawings that visually communicate how an object functions or is constructed
What are engineering drawings?
- They have more detail
- They have measurements
- They show all parts
What are diagrams?
- They have arrows that show movement
- They have colours show different materials
- They’re simple pictures
What type of line is
“__________________”
(It’s thin)
It’s a section line,
- Thin
- Used in sketches, afterwards it’s erased
What kind of line is
“————————“
(It’s thick)
It’s a visible line,
- Thick
- Indicates visible outlines of an object
What type of line is
“— — — — — — —“
It’s a hidden line,
- Thin
- Indicates outlines that aren’t visible
What type of line is
“———— — ————“
It’s a center line,
- Thin
- Indicates the centre of a circle and placement of a section
What type of line is
“^ ^”
|____________|
(It’s thick)
It’s a Cutting Plane line,
- Thick
- Indicates the placement of an imaginary cut
What type of line is
“”
It’s a Spaced Dimension line,
- Thin
- Indicates length
What type of line is
“| |”
It’s an Extension line,
- Thin
- It indicates limits of a measurement
What type of line is
“/ / / / / /“
/ / / / / /
/ / / / /
It’s a Hatching,
- Thin
- Indicates a sectional view caused by an imaginary cut
What type of line is
“ _________ “
/
↓
It’s a Leader line,
- Thin
- Ties a dimension to a particular feature
- You use it when there’s no more space
What are the three types of technical drawings?
- Sketch
- Drawing using tools
- C.A.D. (Computer-Aided Design)
Name all the drafting instruments:
- T-Square
- Compass
- Pencil
- Circle template
- Shape Template
- Protractor
- Ruler
- Set triangle (2 triangle ruler thingies)
What are geometric lines?
They are figures that are composed according to the rules of Geometry. The art of drafting lines + curves. Pencil/Eraser/Ruler = always
What is a sketch?
- It’s freehand
- Drawn quickly
- Only shows essentials
- Respects conventions
What’s Manual Drawing?
- Uses instruments
- Pencil/Paper
- Shows dimensions
- Precise drawing
What’s a C.A.D. (Computer-Aided Design)?
- Very specific + precise
- Must learn/take classes on it
What are the types of projections in Technical drawing?
- Multiview
- 3 views of object (front, side, top) - Isometric
- Edge is parallel* to paper - Oblique
- Side is parallel to paper (face)
What’s an Orthonogal Projection?
It’s a projection in which all rays are perpendicular to the paper.
What’s an Isometric Projection?
- Uses special paper “Diamond Grid”
- No surface is parallel to paper
- LWH = accurate measurements
What are Oblique Projections?
- Sides are parallel to paper
- Square graph paper
- Angles do not conform
