Chapter 1 | Solubility Flashcards
1
Q
What is solubility?
A
Solubility is the max amount of solute that can be dissolved into a given amount of solvent
2
Q
What’s saturation?
A
We call a solution saturated when it has the maximum amount of solute dissolved in it
3
Q
What are the different kind of saturations?
A
- When something hasn’t reached its maximum solubility, we say it’s unsaturated
- When something is at its solubility concentration, we say it’s saturated
- When something is past its solubility, we say it’s super saturated
4
Q
What happens if we change the temperature?
A
- Solids (like NaCl) become more soluble
- Gases like O² become less soluble
