Chapter 3 | Intro To Fluids And Pressure Flashcards
What is a fluid?
A substance that can flow or spread.
In Liquids, how could the bonds between the particles in a fluid allow it to flow, spread and form to a container?
Liquids have weak bonds;
Particles roll over each other
In Gases, how could the bonds between the particles in a fluid allow it to flow, spread and form to a container?
Gases have no bonds;
The particles move in every direction
What’s a mixture called in either a gas or liquid with suspended solids?
It’s called a Colloid:
Mixture with suspended solids, it’s a fluid.
Tiny solids: will they continually flow to form to its container? i.e. are they fluids?
Not fluids; they form piles, but do not flow into the whole container.
