Chapter 3 Flashcards
Social perception
The process of collecting and interpreting information about another persons individual characteristics
Asch research on social perception
Two different tests were done, a list of characteristics were told. Switched the word warmth to cold to see if there is a difference in the perception of that a person depending on how you describe them. Tested with polite/blunt but didn’t get a relationship. Warm/cold is therefore called a central trait and polite/blunt a peripheral trait.
Primacy effect
The tendency for earlier information to be influential in social perception and interpretation.
Kelleys study (1950)
Students rated a guest lecturer as more positive when the lecturer had been introduced as warm than cold person.

Actor-observer difference
Actor-we have more information and focus more on the situation instead of one self but when we are observing we tend to focus more about the behavior of the person instead of the situation
