Chapter 15: Sensory Pathways and Somatic Nervous System Flashcards
Analgesia
The inability to feel pain while still conscious.
Flaccid Paralysis
Weakness or loss of muscle tone as a result of disease or injury to the nerves innervating the muscles.
Hyperalgesia
Increased sensitivity to pain that may be caused by damage to nociceptors or peripheral nerves.
Pain Threshold
The lowest intensity of stimulation at which pain is experienced. It can vary among individuals.
Pain Tolerance

Spastic Paralysis
The chronic pathological condition in which muscles are affected by persistent spasms and exaggerated tendon reflexes due to damage to motor nerves of the CNS.
Syphilis
A STD, also called a STI, caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. Many of the signs and symptoms are indistinguishable from those of other diseases.
