Instinct
A need or desire that energizes and directs behavior
Motivation
The idea that a psychological need creates an aroused tensions state a drive that motivates an organism to satisfy the need

A + or - environmental stimulus that motivates behavior
Incentive
Not all behaviors are physiological. Curiosity driven behaviors suggest too little or too much stimulation can motivate people to seek optimum level of arousal.

Set point
A problem that consistently impairs sexual arousal or functioning.
Sexual disorders
A sex hormone secreted more in women. In animals, this peaks during ovulation and promote sexual receptivity
Estrogen
More prominent in males. Stimulates growth of male sex organs
Testosterone
An enduring sexual attraction to ones own sex or the other sex.
Sexual orientation
Maslows pyramid of human needs, beginning with psychological needs that must be satisfied before the other needs
Hierarchy of needs
Form of sugar that circulates in the blood and provides the major source of energy for blood tissues. When it’s level is low we feel hunger
Glucose
The body’s resting rate of energy expenditure
Basal metabolic rate
An eating disorder where a normal weight person starves themselves and continues to perceive themselves as fat.
Anorexia
An eating disorder characterized by episodes of overrating followed by vomiting
Bulimia
The four stages of sexual responding described by masters and Johnson - excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution
Sexual response cycle
A resting period after an orgasm where a man cannot achieve another orgasm
Refractory period
A completely involved, focused state of consciousness, with diminished awareness of self and time, resulting from optimal engagement of ones skills

The application of psychological concepts and methods to optimizing human behavior and behavior in work places

Group oriented leadership that builds teamwork, mediates conflict, and offers support
