Changing population characteristics 10.8 Flashcards
1
Q
what are selections pressures
A
these are factors that affect the organisms chances of survival or reproduction success
2
Q
What are the steps of natural selection
A
- genetic variation arise within species
- organisms whose variations prove most advantages to face selection pressures reproduce (survival of the fittest)
- inheritance of advantageous characteristics, past 3 steps occur again for millions of years
- eventually whole population shows advantagoues characteristic
- if whole process occurs many more times over millions of years evolution of new species will arise
3
Q
what is an example of modern evolution
A
- MRSA bacteria can resist antibiotics.
- evolve rapidly as when exposed to antibiotics only those resistant survive and reproduce to produce genetically identical versions of themselves
