Therapeutic relationship
Maxmizes communication skills, understanding human behavior, personal strengths to enhance growth
More easily engage in relationship to address concerns and respect as partner in decision making and use language that is straightforward
Focus of relationship needs be on patient’s ideas, experiences, feelings
Consistently focused on pat’s probs and needs
Boundaries
Provide a safe space through which pat can explore feelings and treatment options
Transference
Unconsciouly and inappropriately displaces/transfers patterns of behaviors and emotional rxns toward another person that originate in relation to sig figures in childhood
Countransference
Tendency of nurse to displace onto pat feelings related to people in his/her past - evokes countertransference feelings in nurse
