Ch 7 Flashcards
The science concerned with the internal and external forces acting on the human body and the effects produced by these forces
Biomechanics
Study of movement as it relates to anatomy and physiology
Kinesiology
Anatomical location relatively closer to midline if body
Medial
Anatomical location relatively farther away from the midline or toward the outside of the body
Lateral
Anatomical location positioned on the opposite side of the body
Contralateral
Anatomical location positioned on the same side of body
Ipsilateral
Anatomical location positioned on/toward the front of the body
Anterior
Anatomical location positioned on/toward back of the body
Posterior
Anatomical location positioned nearest to the center of the body or other identified reference point
Proximal
Anatomical location positioned farthest from the center of the body or other identified reference point
Distal
Anatomical location positioned below an identified reference point
Inferior
Flexion occurring at the ankle
Dorisflexion
Extension occurring at the ankle. Pointing the foot downwards
Plantar flexion
A movement in the frontal plane away from the midline of the body
Abduction
Movement in frontal plane away from the midline of the body
Adduction
