Business Group [B]
Group B areas are typically office buildings (back - office file rooms don’t count, i.e. gas station back of office)
a. outpatient clinics, with patients that are NOT incapable of
immediate checkout
b. ambulatory facilities, defined as being a facility where patients stay for less than 24 hours but where patients are incapable of self-preservation
c. Different sprinkler requirements for both incapable and capable patients
i. limitations of the number of people,
ii. varying fire alarms and detection
requirements
d. Testing and research labs that do not exceed quantities of hazardous materials (those that exceed minimum are Group H)
e. Educational facilities above 12th grade, such as junior colleges, universities, and continuing education.
Assembly rooms in these facilities should be examined for conformance with criteria A acc.
Tutoring facilities not associated with schools should be classified as group E (Wiley, BCI, 23)
e. Small food-processing facilities such as take-out pizza shop or to go fast food with no dining
Educational Group [E]
Areas with occupancy classes up to 12th grad used by six or more people per class.
Daycare uses for the daycare of six or more children over 2.5 years of age
Note;Daycares with less than six children are in Group R-3
