1987: leader of Yugoslav republic of Serbia; did not agree with independence movement of states
Bosnia-Herzegovina
1990: lobbied for independence; 1992: Serbs targeted Bosnians (most were Muslims); many were killed; Serbs signed formal peace treaty on Dec 14, 1995 under NATO supervision (split up Bosnia)
Kosovo
1974: Tito made it autonomous gov’t in Yugoslavia; war erupt in 1998; 1989: Milosevic made Kosovo not autonomous; Albanians founded KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army); 1999: gained autonomy; 2000: Milosevic not reelected
