Cellular Energy - Chlorophyll/Pigments Flashcards
1
Q
light
A
- Light coming from the sun, white light, is actually a mixture of all the colors.
- The different wavelengths of light that we can see make up the visible light spectrum.
- Each color we see has a different wavelength of light.
2
Q
pigments
A
- Light absorbing molecules.
- Chlorophyll is the principal pigment of photosynthesis.
- Absorbs light from the blue-violet region and the red regions of the visible light spectrum.
- Plants do not absorb much if any green light so that is why plants are green.
- The wavelength that is being reflected is what we see.
Replacing chlorophyll - These are used during periods of low light. (like fall and winter)
- Carotene pigments absorb light in the red and orange region of the spectrum.
