Cell Transport - Facilitated Diffusion Flashcards
1
Q
facilitated diffusion
A
- Moving from high to low
- Moving through protein channels in the cell membrane which allow certain molecules across the membrane (large and charged molecules)
- Example: Glucose moving in and out of red blood cells using a channel
- Molecules match their channels so there are a lot of combinations (like the lock and key for enzymes)
- there are hundreds of different protein channels for different molecules
- requires energy
