Cell Transport - Osmosis Flashcards
1
Q
Osmosis
A
- occurs when molecules in a solution cannot cross the membrane
- water corsses the membrane and changes the concentration of the solution
- Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane
- Movement from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
- Why don’t many cells burst?
- Animal cells are usually in an isotonic solution or hypertonic solution where the cell would shrink.
- If they are in a hypotonic solution where water will move into the cell, animal cells have contractile vacuoles to pump water back out using energy.
