Cell Division - Meiosis/Crossing Over Flashcards
1
Q
meiosis
A
- Referred to as reduction division.
- This division results in 4 haploid cells.
- These cells are used in sexual reproduction and are called gametes.
- Cuts the number of chromosomes in half by separating homologous chromosomes in a diploid cell.
- Homologous chromosomes are chromosomes that code for the same things but one is from mom and one is from dad.
- A pair of homologous chromosomes make a tetrad.
Contains 4 chromatids

Q
crossing-over
A
- While homologous chromosomes are paired up they exchange portions of their DNA.
- This creates genetic variation within a population.
