Q

Reasons for cell division

A
  • DNA overload:
  • The cell becomes too large for the DNA to handle.
  • There is only enough DNA to regulate a cell of a certain size.
  • Exchange rate of materials:
  • Food and water enter a cell and waste products leave - through the cell membrane.
  • This rate of exchange is dependent on the cell’s surface area to volume ratio.
  • As something becomes bigger the surface area of the cell gets smaller in respect to the size.
