What is carbohydrates
carbohydrates is a macro nutrient that is needed by all animals
it is made by green plants during a process called photosynthesis
what are some functions of carbohydrates in your body
- to give the body energy

Sugars and complex carbohydrates
what is monosaccharides
monosaccharides are made of one sugar molecule
there are three different types of monosaccharides
glucose
Galactose
fructose
what is disaccharides
disaccharides are made up of two sugar molecules joined together
there are three disaccharides
sucrose
lactose
maltose
what is complex carbohydrates
complex carbohydrates are polysaccharides which include starch texture in dietary fibre and pectin

what happens if you do not have enough carbohydrates
you have weight loss
severe weakness
lack of energy
what happens if you have too much carbohydrates
The fat will be stored in the body and will lead to obesity as not enough physical activity
what is refined and processed carbohydrate foods
sugars sugary foods sweet and soft drinks white bread biscuits potatoes white rice
what is free sugars
free sugars are sugars frequently eaten throughout the day which then can lead to tooth decay
sugars that have been released from food such as fruit drink processing or added to foods while cooking
what is Intrinsic sugars
sugars that are found naturally in food such as apples plums carrots onions and milk which are less likely to cause tooth decay
