F in FITT
FREQUENCY - How many times you train, you can increase intensity by taking part in more training sessions
I In FITT
INTENSITY - How hard you train, you can increase intensity by working harder, raising your hr higher
T in FITT
TIME - How long you train for, this can be increased by training for longer periods of time
T in FITT
TYPE - This refers to what type of training you do, needs to match the activity you are training for
1st R in R&R
Rest - A period of inaction where your body has time to repair and heal itself
1nd R in R&R
Recovery - The time required to repair damage to the body, this is where adaptation occurs
S in SPORT
Specificity - What you are trying to achieve. Being specific to the goal. What type of training you’ll do
P in SPORT
Progression - Getting better over time, developing into a better performer. If a plateau happens more work will be added so you can progress again.
O in SPORT
Overload - Having added more training again.
R in SPORT
Reversibility - Too much work, or the work is too intense. When the athlete is fatigued or injured so they lose progression, because of this, when they are fit again they will have to work back to the point before.
T is SPORT
Tedium - When the training is becoming repetitive and the performer begins to lose motivation.
Reliability
The quality of being trustworthy or performing consistently well
Adaptation
How the body reacts to training loads by increasing its ability to cope with those loads. This occurs during the recovery period
Validity
Refers to whether a test measures what it aims to measure
